By the end of the year, Telangana excise department set new record with the help of tipplers. According to sources, the state government billed 2,700 shops, including 400 in the GHMC limits, more than Rs 140 crore on a single day.
The department confirmed that 39 crore bottles of beer and 44 crore bottles of brandy bottles i.e, 25 bottles per second are sold in 2021 drawing a revenue of Rs 30,129 crores. Many analysed that the state government granting permits for thousands of new belt shops is the reason behind record sales. It is recorded that over Rs 1,000 crores business was made in the last five days of the year itself.
Previously, it was observed that the tipplers spent comparatively less money on liquor consumption which drastically increased after the state government started disbursing Rs 5,000 per acre as a part of the Rythu Bandhu scheme. It was learned that many have stocked up liquor well in hand.
Records show that over Rs 150 crores sale is made until 7 PM of December 31st while the other Rs 150 crore was traded in the last 6 hours. Rangareddy district is always at the top in liquor sales. A total of Rs 7,000 crore has come from this district this year. This was followed by Nallagonda District Rs 3300 crores and Hyderabad Rs 3,200 crores worth sales.
