Why did KCR take a swift U-turn with RTC?
What happened to the promise made to set off the organisation from losses?
How far did the privatisation in TSRTC reach?
RTC employees have already gone on a strike in KCR’s tenure as CM. But according to the political analysts, KCR was not on this aggressive note back then, but rather showered the employees with 44 per cent more fitment factor. Why isn’t KCR that generous now? Did his priorities change?
KCR has previously announced that RTC would be divided into three corporations with a dedicated one for Greater Hyderabad. He also stated that the government will take steps to allocate a separate fund from the GHMC to the RTC and that the latter will be made a subsidiary of the former. Taking the reference of the neighbouring states who implemented the same, KCR claimed that the government would soon bring RTC on profits track. However, he didn’t walk his talk. RTC is supposed to have a dedicated Managing Director, which remained vacant for a long time. Though Telangana has a number of efficient and dynamic officials, why is R&B General Secretary Sunil Sharma is taking charge of RTC?
There were proposals to set up new bus stations including the construction of theatres in existing Jubilee and MGBS bus stations. Blueprints for extending the bus stations with shopping malls were also submitted to the CM which didn’t take any further shape anyhow. And now the initiative taken by the government to privatize the company has come as a shock to the employees and many are speculated that the percentage will increase from 20 anytime soon.
