In a most unexpected move, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to withdraw the AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020. In the line of the announcement made, Andhra Pradesh will have only one capital, Amaravati.
The decision which is claimed to be the victory of Amaravati farmers who are on Mahapadayatra from Amaravati to Tirupati is taken by the cabinet in the Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Advocate General S Sriram informed the same to the AP High Court, which is hearing a batch of petitions challenging the AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020 and AP Capital Region Development Authority Repeal Bills, 2020.
To the unversed, the YSRC government brought the Bill to have three capitals to the State – executive capital at Visakhapatnam, judicial capital at Kurnool and legislative capital at Amaravati. The move drew huge flak from the Amaravati farmers who gave their lands for the development of the then announced capital while opposition parties TDP, BJP, and JanaSena covered their support to the protests.
