Raising alarm across the country, India in the past four days has added another 300,000 coronavirus infections to its caseload. As the corona continued to gloom India, now the second worst-hit country in the world, It recorded over 1 lakh cases for the third consequence day.
According to the latest reports from the union health ministry, the Indian states and union territories in the last 24 hours logged 97,570 new COVID cases, the highest single-day spike so far. Taking the total caseload of the country to 46,59,985, India now has 9,58,316 active cases and 36,24,197 people who have been treated and discharged.
On the other hand, 1,201 deaths reported during the same period pushed the death toll to 77,472. Of the total deaths, 69 per cent deaths are concentrated in five states/UT of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.
Reacting to a sudden spurt in the number of cases from the past four cases, the Union Ministry of Health quoted the increase in daily testing which now exceeded one million as the reason.
Amid the sharp criticism over easing restrictions despite the exponential increase in cases, the central government now relied on extensive testing, Tracking and Treating formula.
The only silver lining for the government is the high recovery rate (77 per cent) and the low mortality rate (1.6 per cent) – points the government continues to emphasise.
