Days after Antarvedi Sri Lakshmi Narasimha temple chariot fire mishap in East Godavari district and a roll of protests over the safety of temple properties across the state tensions ran high in Kanaka Durga Temple with three silver lion statues affixed to the chariot went missing.
While the temple authorities are yet to officially confirm any sort of robbery in the temple premises, the temple Executive Officer reportedly instructed the employees to trace where the three lion statues and verify records within the next three days.
Sources confirmed that temple authorities are speculating the silver statues are in temple lockers while each statue was learnt to weigh over 8 kgs.
This triggered political heat in Andhra Pradesh politics while oppositions TDP and BJP alleged foul play in the missing case. TDP MLC Buddha Venkanna who reached to the Kanaka Durga Temple met the officials demanding details about the missing statues.
Meanwhile, BJP AP President Somu Veerraju met with Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan on Wednesday urging the latter to take action against the responsible. The BJP leader was also learnt to raise concerns over the increasing attacks on Hindu temples in the state. He also noted that no complaint was not made to the police yet.
The chariot was used every year during the Ugadi celebrations but was not taken out this year as the festivities were cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The chariot was covered and unattended ever since.
