Andhra Pradesh, the state which has already been on a rough patch due to three capital and various legal hurdles has reportedly tripped into a crisis, of late. However, in an unexpected move, the revenue picked up drastically despite the economic situation.
It was learnt that tippler despite the state government hiking the liquor prices has continued to buy which turned into an advantage for the Jagan-led government. Stats revealed that the tipplers last year contributed almost Rs 20,000 crores to the state treasury while 98% was drawn in 11 months.
It can be noted this revenue used to be Rs 7,000 under the previous government. While the government in its defence stated that the rates are increased to decrease alcoholism, the move drew criticism from all spectrums. Tipplers, on the other hands, didn’t compromise with the price increase but discursively helped the government in meeting the crisis.
