With the Tollywood drugs case taking an international hue, the Enforcement Directorate(ED) has tightened the noose around the celebrities. The case is being untangled on fast-track as the ED officials got the crucial information over the hawala transactions of drug dealers.
Enforcement Directorate(ED) officials have already issued notices to 12 celebrities who were accused to have connections with the case to attend the interrogation in the Hyderabad ED office from 31st to 22nd September. While the Excise Department has filed charge sheets against 12 celebrities, renowned director Puri Jagannath is summoned for the interrogation on Tuesday.
The money from the sale of drugs is learned to be transferred to foreign countries, making it difficult to recognize the ultimate beneficiaries. Trusted sources at ED suspect the drug peddlers made large-scale financial transactions in the form of Bitcoins.
The ED found that the drug paddlers who are all foreigners made Goa and Hyderabad centers of drug trafficking. Kelvin, who has already been arrested, has links to the international drug mafia in the United States. He was found to import drugs from the U.S, Africa, and South Africa and later supplied them via the Dark website. Authorities learned that the drugs were delivered by three private courier companies as one gram of cocaine was sold for around Rs 10,000.
In July 2017, excise officials arrested three persons in Hyderabad and seized drugs worth Rs 30 lakh. The interrogation of the accused revealed the names of several Tollywood celebrities which created sensation back then. 12 cases were registered and 30 people were arrested. 11 charge sheets were filed in court by the investigating officers.
