With the failure of talks between the assigned panel and JAC leaders, employees of TSRCT have decided to go on strike to press for their long-standing demands. Causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers across the state, over 10,000 buses were stalled at the respective depots from the early hours of Saturday itself. 325 bus services from Kukatpally, BHEL and Miyapur 1 & 2 depots have been stopped during the peak period of the year while people travel to their destinations for Dasara and Bathukamma festivals.
The state government has deployed around 2,100 hired buses including the ones taken from various schools and colleges. Special police teams were employed to provide security to the deployed private bus drivers. As Section 144 was imposed at Kukatpaly bus depot, a large number of unemployed people gathered at the depot waiting for the posts of temporary driver and conductor. The Joint Action Committee of TSRTC employee unions claimed that all 50,000 employees are participating in the strike.
