Days after a journalist was brutally killed in front of his two daughters in Ghaziabad, yet another journalist working with a local Hindi news channel was shot dead on Monday night in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh.
Into details, the journalist was identified as 45-year-old Ratan Singh was shot inside the village head’s residence, which was almost a kilometre away from the victim’s house. According to the preliminary reports, the journalist was beaten up before he was shot.
While the investigation is underway, UP police have detained four distant relatives of Ratan who are alleged with the victim at the time of the murder. “Village pradhan Seema Singh’s husband, Jhabhar Singh, is currently absconding. And the victim family is yet to file a complaint,” said Circle Officer Chandrakesh Singh.
According to a police officer, the shooter was an associate of the victim. The police said that the journalist was killed after a fight with his associate turned violent. Meanwhile, journalists and a group of people protested in Ballia, condemning the attacks on journalists while it has been second such incident in a span of one month.
Earlier in July, Vikram Joshi, a 22-year-old journalist was shot at by miscreants days after he had filed a police complaint over harassment of his niece.
