The list of IAS officers being jailed has been increasing. The High Court recently sentenced two more IAS officers to imprisonment. Stating that the official judgment will be issued on September 29th, the court ordered the arrest of IAS officers Poonam Malakondaiah and Chiranjeevi Chaudhary as accused in contempt of court cases.
The court issued a non-bailable warrant against Poonam Malakondaiah for failing to appear in court despite a court order to appear in person. The officers reportedly did not follow the orders given by the court in the past in filling the posts of Village Horticulture Assistant. Despite the state government filing a petition, the court dismissed it and asked the officers to attend the hearings in person.
With justice not served to the victims, the court on Wednesday held that the IAS officers Poonam Malakondaiah and Chiranjeevi Chowdhury were the main reason for the non-implementation of the court orders.
However, if the verdict is executed within the 29th of this month, the sentence is likely to be commuted. But it remains to be seen whether the government will agree to this. Several IAS officers are already held in contempt of court cases.
