Remdesivir. This antiviral drug has been the new sensation in the global health scenario with Coronavirus deepening its roots in almost 25 countries. While Chinese scientists are in neck-deep urgency to come up with an antiviral drug to treat the dreadful infection, news that the U.S. scientists came up with an impactful drug is making rounds in Chinese media. The hospitals in China also confirmed that they have been using Remdesivir, an antiviral medicine made by Gilead, the American pharmaceutical giant on the enrolled patients. Reportedly, the antiviral drug has been showing positive results.
However, the results were not the same with all the patients. Doctors in Washington State gave Remdesivir to the first coronavirus patient in the United States last week after his condition worsened and pneumonia developed when he’d been in the hospital for a week. Reacting to the same, China stated that the drug is being still used on the experimental basis owing to a difference in result with different patients.
Though an official statement is yet to be issued, a few of the Chinese authorities said that they were instructed to give the drug to 500 patients intravenously for 10 days, and then assessed 28 days after the treatment to see how they fared compared to the other patients. However, the availability of the drug is limited while the pharmaceutical giant is gearing up to increase production.
