Standing true to what he has stated US President Donald Trump issued an executive order banning any transaction starting in 45 days with video-sharing app TikTok and messenger app WeChat’s starting in 45 days.
In a letter to US Congressional leaders, Trump quoted that the app may be used for disinformation campaigns that benefit the Chinese Communist Party.
In the line of the orders issued, Tic-Tok and WeChat will be effectively banned in the United States in 45 days by barring “to the extent permitted under applicable law, any transaction that is related to WeChat by any person, or with respect to any property, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, with Tencent Holdings Ltd.”
While the move s anticipated to escalate tensions with Beijing, Tech giant Microsoft says it will continue talks to buy Tiktok’s operations in the US along with Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
It can be noted that Trump warned the parent company ByteDance he will ban the service in the United States on Sept. 15 unless it makes a deal with a US company.
Like Indian Army banned the app in the army, the US Senate has unanimously voted to approve a bill banning federal employees from using TikTok on government-issued devices.
