Giving it a hard time for the US President Donald Trump, the 100-member US Senate is all set to decide over the conviction of the former on Tuesday. Trump who has been facing charges on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, was voted against by the House of Representatives last week. The trail of the Republican President which will resume from today is expected to continue six days a week, with breaks each Sunday. This historic impeachment has now become the most discussed one all across the globe with speculations to effect every possible spectrum.
On this note, Trump’s lawyers on Monday presented a 111-page legal brief in defence of the President which reportedly claimed that he did not commit a crime. The report also clearly stated that the Democrats are deliberately trying to convict Trump and to remove him from office. In Tuesday’s trail, a debate and vote session is likely to take place according to the trail rules proposed by the Republican Senate Majority leader, Mitch McConnell (Kentucky), that would govern the first phase of the trial. On the other hand, Trump who ought to leave Washington for a two days trip to attend World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland remained on due.
In mid-December, the 435-member House of Representatives passed the abuse of power article of impeachment with 230-197 vote line. The House later proceeded with a vote on the second article of impeachment charging him with obstruction of Congress and the article was passed by a 229-198 vote. However, reports opined that the President would come out clean from the Senate voting where the Republicans or GOP are in majority.
