BJP leader Vijay Shanthi has lashed out at the government for not keeping up with the concerns of Mallanna Sagar residents. She stated that the chief minister is planning to inaugurate the reservoir on the 23rd of this month, but nobody is barely looking out for the residents of that area. Vijayashanthi was aggravated at the government’s inability to help out the people who left the village. She added that the families who left the village believing the words of the authorities are still facing many problems.
Authorities, who were concerned about evacuating the residents from the sinking villages, later completely ignored the lives of those who migrated. Nearly 6,533 families in 8 panchayats have been displaced along the Mallanna Sagar Reservoir. She recalled that each village was evacuated with several guarantees in installments to release water into the reservoir, displacing the villagers of Lakshmapur about 22 months ago and finally sending the Brahmin Banjerupalli villagers 8 months ago.
While relocating the displaced from the flooded villages, the government had promised to allot double bedroom houses or to give open plots to others as per their options. It is alleged that even after over a year, the 3,500 families have not been given double bedroom houses or open plots. Residents were incensed that they are simply waiting for the plots or houses, whatever they were promised, and simply losing their lives during this time.
An expatriate named Rajababu, who had two daughters, died of a heart attack a year ago after suffering from stress and anxiety on not receiving anything he was promised, Banotu Hanmantu died six months ago, an 80-year-old lonely woman from Andaka Vemulaghat village committed suicide on not getting the promised package, she cursed and blamed the government for cheating her. Vijayshanthi demanded immediate justice for the victims of the Mallanna Sagar area.
