Even before Vijayawada forgets the gang war which led to the death of one, a chilling crime knocked the city on Monday. A car with three persons including a woman locked inside was set on fire by a private financier. The ghastly murder attempt took place near a star hotel in Vijayawada.
All three were shifted to the nearest hospital with the help of locals and fire department staff who rushed to the spot. While two of them managed to escape with minor injuries, the other man is said to be serious with 60 per cent burns. The police are now in search for the accused who is absconding.
Into details, Venugopal Reddy who allegedly set the white car on fire used to be a business partner with Krishna Reddy, Gangadhar and Nagavalli, the three injured. They used to buy and sell second-hand cars. However, their business did not run well and parted ways after incurring losses.
According to V Harshavardhan Raju, a senior police officer in Vijayawada, accused had been trying to talk to Gangadhar but that the latter did not respond. Gangadhar then plotted to end the issue with murder.
“All four persons were discussing the matter in the car. At around 4.45 PM, Venugopal got down the car on the pretext of smoking a cigarette. He then locked the car, poured the petrol, which he brought in a whiskey bottle and set the car ablaze. Venugopal Reddy ran away from the spot,” the police officer said.
Videos of the car fuming and fire department dousing the fire are going viral on social media.
