Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have rushed to Visakhapatnam with situations gripping out of control as the chemical gas Styrene leaked out from a pharmaceutical company at RR Venkatapuram village. As many as 8 people were dead while over 1,000 were shifted to Visakhapatnam’s King George Hospital. Many people lying unconscious on roads while some a few others panting with breathlessness, video of which are going viral on social media.
In the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising concerns over the situations, national media now narrowed down on the cause of the accident. Allegations over negligence of officials and company representatives floated while the officials are still digging into the details.
It was learnt that the factory was shut down due to the lockdown and restarting the production without minimal inspection is speculated to the reason behind the gas leakage. While concerned authorities are to visit the factory before resuming the production, it was said that the officials too paid a blind eye which ended with a major mishap which affected almost 3,000 families.
Tension ran high with the officials evacuating the locals as the health experts advised the people in and around 2 kms the factory to stay in the safe locality under medical surveillance.
