Washington state health authorities on Saturday confirmed the first death from COVID-19 viral infection. According to the reports from King County, the patient was a 50-year-old man who was recently tested positive with the novel virus. Though the official hasn’t disclosed of how the patient was contracted with the virus as he didn’t have the history of travelling to China. Officials are investigating how he contracted the virus.
It was speculated that the virus spread from a long-term care facility while the other case, a 70-year-old woman was in critical condition. The death case came in the wake of another case confirmed in the U.S. With the local media reporting that more than 50 people in a Washington state nursing facility are sick and being tested for the virus, the state authorities have declared a state of emergency. Meanwhile, the officials were considering cancelling sporting events, closing schools to slow the spread of the virus.
