The recent actions of Telangana’s Chief Minister KCR clearly indicated his plans on entering national politics. Many were wondering if he could prove his worth on a national level. KCR in fact declared war on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The latest political developments gave us the impression that Congress is slowly fading from the country. In order to fight at the center, KCR has been trying to form a political front to which he started meetings with regional parties- one after the other to unite them. However, there are clear signs that a non-Congress alliance is difficult. Amid these difficulties, KCR’s predictions were wrong in the recent five states elections. The impact of the BJP’s win cooled down KCR.
Even in recent times, KCR did not go even to Delhi to discuss the grain procurement issues, he simply sent the ministers. Political pundits believe that KCR had said way too many things bashing the center, and now has no face to see central ministers in person. It seems that the only way to fight the center is to form a political front that consists of all the regional parties. To accomplish this, KCR earlier in Mumbai announced that he will hold a meeting in Hyderabad to discuss with all the regional leaders. The recent win of the BJP in four out of five states, and KCR’s intentions on leading the coalition against the BJP raised some doubts among the regional parties. Considering all these aspects, they stepped back from supporting KCR.
There is talk that no one can trust KCR. They believe that he is in fact eyeing the position of Prime Minister. His sole strategy is to do something and overthrow the BJP government. However, analysts are predicting that the latest actions of Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee are watering down KCR’s hopes. Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to the opposition parties and the CMs of various states. She said the BJP was abusing the Central Intelligence Agency and called on all parties to come together to fight the issue.
Mamata Banerjee has been attacking the Modi government for many years. TMC is in fact a partner of the UPA alliance. It seems like she is now taking advantage of Congress’ weak position. It is very well known that her party did worse than expected from opinion polls, which saw them gaining about two-thirds of the support. If we take a look, is she looking to bring regional parties together into one? And, will KCR stand behind Mamata? This has become a hot topic in Indian politics. Currently, IT raids are being carried out on companies in Telangana that have links with TRS leaders. Mamata says the Modi government is abusing central institutions. Analysts say that if KCR ever declares his support to Mamata in this matter, people will believe that he is corrupt. If he doesn’t back her, he will be losing her support for the political front, and Mamata will lead the race into national politics. Either way, KCR will be on the losing side.
