Before the state government recovered from the unexpected blow from the opposition TDP at AP Legislative assembly, Jagan and his team were now amidst the legal battel with farmers. A total of five petitions were filed in the High Court against the state government giving tough times for the young CM. 37 Amaravati farmers filed a petition with an appeal to continue Amaravati as the executive capital. On the other hand, two public interest litigations (PILs) were filed on Tuesday challenging the repeal of APCRDA Act, 2014. The petitioners requested the court to announce repealing of APCRDA Act as illegal. Another three petitions regarding the capital shift were filed including the High Court shift to Kurnool.
In a move to help the government out of this legal fix, the state government has roped in senior lawyer and former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi. Known to be one of the most successful at the same time expensive advocates in India, Mukul is said to charge as much as Rs 5 crores to take government side over all the cases relating to Amaravati. An official G.O was also issued by the CMO release Rs 1 crore towards the advance for this senior advocate. This has been receiving outrage from the Amaravati farmers and political analyst for misusing the public money for political vendetta.
On the other hand, news has it that Mukul was called onto an emergency meeting with the Chief Minister upon which the senior advocate reached to Undavalli Camp office on Thursday. Sources revealed that Jagan and his team have sought his suggestions to restrain the farmers and oppositions on the legal front. With the legislative council’s decision to send the AP Decentralisation Bill and Repealing of the AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) Bill to a select committee, it was said that Mukul would chalk out a strategy to ensure that no stone is left unturned. Camp office sources stated that the meeting was attended by the senior heads of YSRCP including MP Vijaysai Reddy, Peddireddy and Botsa Satyanarayana. While the ruling YSRCP pinned all their hopes of AG Mukul, only time reveals if he really came to the rescue of Jagan-led government.
