Visakhapatnam…the name has been the widely heard word amidst the YSRCP-led government’s bill to make it the executive capital. Besides this, the city is well-known for its natural beauty which inspired many directors who shot their films around the city. It was back in the 1970s and 80’s that majority of Telugu movie songs were shot in the city. To remind, renowned Tamil director K Balachander shot his film ‘Marocharitra’ in Vizag which set history in Tollywood.
Coming to 2014 after the state bifurcation, it was widely believed that part of Tollywood would shift to Visakhapatnam as the majority of the film fraternity belongs to Andhra. Attempts to make Visakhapatnam the cinema capital during the YSSR regime and the Chandrababu era went in vain except for leading producer D Ramanayudu setting up a studio in Bhimili.
Jagan government this time seems to be serious about bringing back the gone glory to Vizag. Discussions were also held with film personalities at the Tadepalli camp office some time ago. He also said that the government would help in the construction of studios in Visakhapatnam.
