‘Wrong Films being sent as our entries’; AR Rahman Reacts on Oscars
India’s very own and world famous Oscar winning Music Director, A R Rahman made some sensational comments after the 95th Oscar Award presentation ceremonies were over. He lamented that we are not sending in the right kind of films for the Oscar nominations since a long time and it’s time to do some introspection and get closer to find out what makes it to click at such an world class events like the Oscars. Rahman created history of sorts, when he got two Oscars. In 2009 for the feature film ‘Slum Dog Millionaire’ Rahman along with Gulzar and Rasool Pookutty. After that, now only in 2023 ‘RRR’ got an Oscar. However, lot of home work was done to ensure that the ‘RRR’ first gets in to the nomination round successfully.

The film ‘RRR’ under the direction of iconic S S Rajamouli got the best patronage not only in India but also around the world. It was strongly believed that the film apart from popularity got everything that may deserve official nomination from India. However, keeping aside ‘RRR’, another film from Gujarat, ‘Last Film Show’ was selected as the official Indian nomination. The end result is that film couldn’t compete with other films. Everybody including the Hollywood media questioned the reasons for not selecting ‘RRR’ and are disappointed. Yet, the Team ‘RRR’ left no stone unturned and their efforts haven’t gone in vain as ‘RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ song got the nominations in the Best Original Song’ category and finally went on to win the Oscar itself and created history!
The general feeling is that if ‘RRR’ could have got the official nomination from India, in the Best Movie Category…there might have been a chance of winning another Oscar. Keeping this in mind only recently A R Rahman commented that our cinemas are going up to Oscars…but are not succeeding in getting the Oscar…may be due to poor selection of the cinemas to represent India at such prestigious global platforms. Now these comments of Rahman have gone viral in social media.
