The series of attacks on the main opposition TDP offices and leaders’ houses on Tuesday came as a jolt to the state political circles. With numerous TDP workers and employees severely injured and properties vandalized the incident drew the national media’s attention. National media telecasted the visuals with titles like ‘goonda raj in AP’.
In the wake of the attacks, both the ruling and opposition parties sought protection from the attacks in the coming days. TDP chief and former CM N.Chandrababu Naidu reportedly called up union home minister Amit Shah over the phone seeking protection while the YSR Congress has appealed to the Election Commission to deploy additional Central forces on May 23 in Andhra Pradesh.
As per the Delhi sources, Amit Shah assured protection for Chandrababu after he goes through the reports on attacks from the AP Chief Secretary and AP DGP.
The attacks took place simultaneously in multiple offices at the same time strengthening the speculations that they were well planned in advance. TDP leader K Pattabhiram’s residence at Visakhapatnam was also attacked. The attacks came in the wake of Pattabhi Ram’s comments on YRSCP Chief and state Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at a press conference that was televised live.
