In a major jolt to former CM and TDP supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu, CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP has clean swept the Andhra Pradesh panchayat elections by a huge margin. Touted to be a move which further pulled the main opposition down, YSRCP-backed candidates had won 74 panchayats out of 80.
Statistics have it that panchayat candidates backed by the ruling YSRCP have bagged over 87% of the panchayats in the Kuppam assembly constituency. TDP, on the other hand, has managed to win only 14 village panchayats, with less than 15 per cent of the total seats.
Meanwhile, leader of opposition Chandrababu Naidu registered a complaint in the State Election Commission and alleged mass manipulation of the election results. In his letter, Chandrababu Naidu requested the SEC to immediately declare the withheld results and take action against the erring officials in order to save grassroots democracy and people’s participation.
